1. LEAGUE OVERVIEW

The Sky Ball Basketball League (SBBL) is a fast-paced, high-energy basketball entertainment league designed to combine competitive play, aerial scoring, and continuous action.

• Fan engagement

2. TEAM STRUCTURE

• 4 Teams

• 5 Players per team

• 3 players on the court at a time (3-on-3)

• Unlimited substitutions

• 3. PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

• Must be 18 years or older

• Height must be between 5’5” and 6’2”

 

4. GAME FORMAT

• 4 Quarters (15 minutes each)

• Running clock

• 15-minute halftime

• 15-second shot clock

• Resets on: Change of possession and offensive rebounds​

• Clock stoppages in las 2 minutes of each quarter

5. SHOT CLOCK

• 15-second shot clock

• Resets on: Change of possession and Offensive rebounds

 

6. STANDARD SCORING

• Inside arc = 2 points

• Beyond 3-point line = 3 points

 

7. AIR THROW SYSTEM (FREE THROW RULES)

• Each foul results in 2 attempts.

Each attempt may be:

• Free Throw = 1 point

• Half-Court Alley-Oop = 2 points

• Full-Court Alley-Oop = 3 points

 Players may mix attempts

8. AIR THROW COMPLETION RULE

To count:

• Must be caught clean

• Must be dunked immediately

• Otherwise = no points

 

9. REBOUNDING RULES

• Free Throws:

Only the non-shooting team may rebound the ball

All Other Gameplay:

• Both teams may rebound

• Offensive rebounds allowed

 

10. CLUTCH TIME SCORING

Final 2 Minutes:

• Shots beyond half court = 4 points

Final 1 Minute:

• Full-court alley-oop = 8 points

 

11. CODE RED AIRSTRIKE (5-POINT DUNK RULE)

Definition: A Code Red Airstrike is awarded for a dunk that is:

• Exceptionally powerful

• Highly creative

• Crowd-energizing

Activation:

• Sideline Judges signal

• Referee confirms

Announcer Call:

 “CODE RED AIRSTRIKE!!!”

Presentation:

•  Siren

•  Music

•  Graphic

Limit:

 Max 2 per team per game

12. SUBSTITUTIONS

Live (hockey-style) substitutions allowed

• Must occur in designated substitution zone

• One player must exit before another enters

•  Violation = turnover

 

13. FOULS & BONUS

• Bonus activates at 5 team fouls per half

• Bonus = 2 attempts 

• No 1-and-1

 

14. PLAYER FOUL LIMIT

• 6 fouls = disqualified

• Player must leave immediately

• No re-entry

 

15. FLAGRANT FOULS

• Flagrant foul = immediate ejection

• No warning

• No return

• May be subject to league reprimands incuding suspesion

16. TIMEOUT RULES

Per Half (each team):

• 2 × 30-second timeouts

• 1 × 60-second timeout

 

Mandatory Stoppages:

• 2 × 60-second stoppages per game (called by refs)

Overtime:

•  No timeouts

 

17. OVERTIME

• 5 minute running clock

• No 4-point shots

• No 8-point shots

• No time outs

 

18. OFFICIATING SYSTEM

• 2 referees

• Positioned in elevated chairs (sidelines)

• Do NOT enter court during live play

Ref Responsibilities:

• Call fouls

• Track possession

• Enforce rules

 

19. GAME FLOW

SBBL prioritizes:

• Continuous play

• Fast transitions

• Minimal stoppages

​20. REQUIRED FOOTWEAR

All SBBL games are played without sneakers or traditional athletic shoes.

Players must wear:

Official SSBL approved matt grip socks 

​

PROHIBITED FOOTWEAR

The following are NOT allowed:

• Sneakers

• Basketball shoes

• Cleats

• Bare feet

• Socks without grip traction

 

ENFORCEMENT

Players not wearing proper grip socks:

• Will not be allowed to participate

• Must correct footwear before entering the game

 

SAFETY PURPOSE

This rule is designed to:

• Improve traction on playing surfaces

• Prevent slipping and injuries

• Support the unique playing environment of Skyball

• Maintain consistency across all games
